Music for Deep Meditation is proud to present The Supreme Heart of Shiva: Om Namah Shivaya and Chanting OM. This album features original melody compositions by Vidura Barrios for the Om Namah Shivaya chants and special arrangements of the chanting of the sacred syllable Om. Each track is designed to support the practice of both meditation and sacred chanting.
Om is a primeval mantra, said to be the first sound to arise from Supreme Silence. Om Namah Shivaya, also ancient, is known as the five-syllable mantra—five syllables plus Om. One of the great mantras of the yogic tradition, Om Namah Shivaya is translated as “I honor Shiva”—Shiva being understood to be a name for one’s innermost being. This is called the great redeeming mantra for, when repeated or sung, it has the power to still the mind and reveal the power that lies within.
The album also includes the chanting of the Maha Mrityunjaya, a Vedic prayer for well being on all levels. In this prayer, the seeker asks for their delusion to be dispelled and for awareness to dawn within them of their own deepest nature.
The supreme heart of Shiva is, in essence, the divine heart that exists within all beings. May each of us experience the beauty and wonder that is Shiva, and may our meditation practice bear great fruit for us and for the world.
